JOB TITLE: Senior Software Engineer       

SALARY: £68,202 – £87,610 dependent on experience and location

LOCATION(S): Halifax or London   

HOURS: Full time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our locations.

About this opportunity

CIO Enabling Services provides Test Environment Services to deliver and continuously improve test environment engineering through innovation and automation, driving excellence in test environments and test data provisioning. Supporting the whole of LBG with an expertise in Major Programmes, our team provides end to end testing environments using both physical and cloud-based solutions. With an eye on virtualisation and self-service the team is developing a range of service offerings to help speed up provisioning of environments to support fast paced change.

Joining us as a Software Engineer specialising in Test Environment Services you’ll play a pivotal role within the area.  You will help drive technical delivery by providing effective coordination and integration of various technical components that requires cross-cutting engagement across multiple Labs and/or third parties to deliver all aspects of test environment solutions.

You'll get to work closely with the various engineering roles within test environment services ensuring you contribute to the prioritisation of your deliverables, as well as other members of the team such as the environment specialists around key dependencies and engineering leads to ensure we do the right thing for our customers.

Key activities include:

  • Participate in the various lab product walkthroughs (design/architecture/testing)

  • Capture all aspects of test environment requirements from Architect/QA Lead

  • Collaborate with other platform Technical Delivery Managers, Quality Engineers, DevOps Engineer and other key stakeholders to finalise requirements

  • Identify connectivity between applications and ensure required teams are engaged

  • Coordinate the integration process and/or implementation across shared infrastructure.

  • Manage E2E delivery of environments for various phases of Testing (SIT/NFT,UAT)

  • Working with stakeholders outside of the lab to ensure interlock to enable delivery at pace.

  • Track environment releases, upgrades and changes

  • Support environment incident fixing to ensure stable test environment availability  

  • Identify blockers to delivery by proactively monitoring, trouble shooting and diagnosing technical issues.

  • Support all phases of delivery lifecycle, including implementation activities if appropriate

  • Document RTL test environment connectivity including third party interfaces

  • Control test environment costs and seek efficiency improvements

  • Continually review and improve test environment processes and services

  • Proactively identify and manage test environment RAID

  • Manage various resources to deliver fit for purpose test environments

What you’ll need

  • A strong technical background with experience in environments provisioning, support and management

  • Ability to understand and translate complex technical solutions into non-engineering terminology.

  • A strong understanding of the concepts regarding Environment – Route To Live

  • Experience in applications transitioning to a cloud infrastructure and the models in place to support them and their new route to live

  • Experience in infrastructure delivery

  • Experience of banking platforms – e.g. Branch, Telephony, Digital, Mortgages, Payments

  • Experience of Cloud infrastructure / technologies

  • Experience of Technical Recovery Management, Incident & Problem Management

  • Strong Organisational Awareness

  • Ability to build and manage relationships with a wide range of customers of our Platform.

  • Ability to lead multiple deliveries simultaneously.

  • Experience of change methodologies including Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall

  • Team Management skills

  • Coaching and Mentoring skills

  • Logical and creative thinking skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build working relationships

  • Enthusiasm to learn and develop as “hands on”
