Team/Role Overview
Citi Commercial Bank (CCB) is a global line of business at Citigroup that provides commercial banking services to mid-sized companies. CCB aspires to be the global bank of choice for trade-oriented companies, with revenues between $100MM – $3B with an array of products and services, that include: Lending, Cash Management, Trade, Foreign Exchange, Interest Rate Derivatives and Capital Markets solutions.
CCB UK business being one of the major contributors to this global line has grown significantly since inception and will continue to grow this year in the same way. There must be sufficient capacity in the Risk management team to face this growth and be able to maintain the health of the portfolio, where approval is one of the primary roles to support the Business.
The Credit Risk Senior Officer I is a strategic professional who closely follows latest trends in own field and adapts them for application within own job and the business. Typically, a small number of people within the business that provide the same level of expertise. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level.
Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Accountable for significant direct business results or authoritative advice regarding the operations of the business.
This position reports to the UK CCB Head of Approvals and is based in London.
What you’ll do
Strategic professional who will undertake quality judgmental lending including exercising delegated approval authority to ensure that good business opportunities are not lost yet safeguarding the business interests of the Bank. Responsible for the financial analysis, risk assessment and credit structure recommendation for cash flow lending products
Complete in-depth analysis of financial data and other information provided by the client and/or banker in the field. Supplement analysis with research and evaluations from a wide variety of sources to develop an assessment of client, competitor/ industry risks and trends for senior management and/or the Senior Credit Officer
Oversee deal approvals including timing of approvals and turnaround in collaboration with underwriters and business partners
Ensure all credit decisions comply with regulatory requirements, including PRA, FCA and OCC guidelines, as well as internal risk governance standards
Provide independent approvals for the individual portfolio as a Senior Credit Officer with the appropriate authority and title
Assist revenue growth and contain credit losses, while managing risk within credit policy
Monitor an assigned credit portfolio and complete periodic reviews; maintain a thorough understanding of the content and aggregate risks within the portfolio, trends and other key statistics
Assist in the development of appropriate procedures around approvals, underwriting, and portfolio functions in consultation with underwriters and senior business leaders
Pro-actively reach out to line partners, creating a shared learning environment between remote location and front office
What we’ll need from you
Extensive credit experience (more than 12 years) including approvals with proven track record of successfully managing leveraged finance portfolios in the commercial/corporate lending space
Strong understanding of corporate finance, financial modelling, and lending practices
In-depth knowledge of industry sectors relevant to the UK mid-corporate market
Excellent communication and diplomacy skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level and occasionally with external customers
Thorough credit and analytical skills, knowledge of credit products
Strong decision-making ability, balancing commercial acumen with a robust risk management mindset. Familiarity with UK regulatory requirements for credit risk and lending
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Bold in approach to approve sound credit with highly collaborative work style
Ability to train, recruit, and mentor teams of professionals
Must be SCO or equivalent
