Department Overview

The Security Operations team are part of Security Division. The main priority of the team is to ensure safety and security to all staff, tenants and visitors, protection of the building, its assets and information. The structure of Security Operations allows flexibility within the teams to train, test, and exercise without impacting daily duties. As the Bank is part of the UK's Critical National Infrastructure and facilitate the production of all Bank of England Banknotes, we have strong engagement with law enforcement. The team engages with customers across all business areas which makes this an exciting and wide-ranging role within an organised and focused department.

Job Description

The primary focus of the Security Officer is to protect the Bank from any internal or external physical security threats and respond to any infrastructure failures in partnership with others, by delivery of security tasks requiring industry standard knowledge. The Officer must use their own initiative and raise issues to team leaders or managers when appropriate. Being alert, motivated, vigilant, and authoritative are key factors for this role.

Role Responsibilities

Conduct patrols of the premises to maintain order and establish a security presence. Supervise surveillance cameras and alarm systems to detect any suspicious activities. Control access to the buildings, authorizing entry for visitors and employees. Respond promptly to emergencies and provide aid as needed. Perform security checks of specified areas and secure all areas during operations. Complete reports on surveillance activities and any significant incidents.

The security team have a wide range of responsibilities, including:

  • Static guarding
  • Internal and external patrolling
  • Searching
  • Examination of deliveries
  • Building protection
  • Asset protection
  • CCTV surveillance
  • Alarm monitoring
  • Emergency response
  • Visitor management

Minimum Criteria

  • Experience using industry security systems such as CCTV, alarm, and Fire systems.
  • Strong customer service skills and experience delivering high quality customer experiences.
  • Ability to work optimally without supervision.

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience working as a security officer within the Security Industry or equivalent preferred.
  • Presentable and professional demeanour, with good judgement and integrity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility, quick thinking, and immediate reaction capabilities.
  • Confident in looking after visitors, VIPs, senior executives.
  • Physical fitness to meet the requirements.

Desirable Criteria

  • A valid front line SIA Licence or current certificate of completion of SIA front line training.

Shift Details:

  • 3 On/3 Off shift rotation with two additional training days per month.
  • Combination of early, late, and night shifts, approximately 8 hours per shift and training day.
  • As an operational on-site role, there is no remote work.

Salary and Benefits Information

We offer a salary as follows:

London circa £27,300 + £8,000 shift allowance

In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below:

  • A non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/95th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/50th) or decrease (to 1/120th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year.

  • A 8% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits.

National Security Vetting Process

Employment in this role will be subject to the National Security Vetting clearance process (and typically can take between 6 to 12 weeks post offer) and the passing of additional Bank security checks in accordance with the Bank policy.
