At FTSE Russell, LSEG’s Index Business, we are seeking a DevOps lead to support and enhance our existing processes and to accelerate migration projects onto the company’s strategic DevOps platform – Gitlab.

Job Description: As a Senior Lead Engineer – DevOps within FTSE Russell, you will be responsible for overseeing the deployment, automation, and maintenance of our development and production environments and supporting the delivery of multiple engineering and automation initiatives that address key Index Operational Risk concerns. You will work closely with development, operations, and security teams to ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of our infrastructure. Your role will involve acting as an SME for a team of DevOps engineers, implementing best practices, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership:

  • Act as a key subject matter expert within the DevOps team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to team members.

  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning.

  • Help set performance goals and provide constructive feedback into performance reviews

CI/CD Pipeline Management:

  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins to automate the build, test, and deployment processes.

  • Ensure the pipelines are efficient, reliable, and scalable to support the development lifecycle.

  • Act as a though leader and SME on the migration to GitLab

Infrastructure as Code:

  • Develop and manage infrastructure as code using Terraform and Ansible to automate the provisioning and configuration of infrastructure resources.

  • Ensure the infrastructure is version-controlled, reproducible, and easily maintainable.

Cloud Infrastructure Management:

  • Oversee the management and optimization of cloud infrastructure on AWS, ensuring high availability, scalability, and cost-efficiency.

  • Implement and manage monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure the health and performance of the infrastructure.

Automation and Scripting:

  • Automate system administration tasks using Python and Bash scripting to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

  • Develop and maintain scripts for deployment, monitoring, and maintenance tasks.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to improve deployment processes and ensure seamless integration of new features.

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to understand requirements, provide updates, and address concerns.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

  • Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.

  • Collaborate with security teams to implement and maintain secure DevOps practises ensuring compliance with the organisation’s standards and policies (Black Duck).

Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of the infrastructure and processes.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies, and evaluate their potential impact on the organization.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a DevOps SME or similar role, with a strong track record of innovation and delivering against strategic roadmaps.

  • System administration skills on Windows and Red Hat Linux

  • Expert in Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, AWS, Python, Groovy and Bash/Powershell.

  • Experience with Datadog

  • Expert in Gitlab with strong migration experience.

  • Solid understanding of networking, security, and code analysis.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
