WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week currently, or 40% of our time, at our Bristol office.

We have an amazing opportunity within the Finance Platform, for a transformational Engineering Lead within the Strategic Ledger, Controls and Reconciliations Lab. Our applications are used cross-Group and underpin critical operation of the Group Ledger, financial control and reconciliation within Lloyds Banking Group. You'll work alongside the Lab Product Owner in shaping the investment and vision for the Strategic Ledger, Controls and Reconciliations Lab, and as a result centre on setting the strategic direction for the engineering teams to demonstrate thought leadership on contemporary technical delivery, across the entire lifecycle, from idea to realisation of value.

What you’ll do…
Collaboration is critical to the success of this role! As the Engineering Lead you'll operate collaboratively with the Lab Product Owner, other labs, technical teams, other platforms as well as other engineering leads within the platform. You’ll work hand-in-hand leading the Lab teams:
Create safe culture for Engineers to create best in class solutions through coaching, mentoring and the adoption of modern engineering practices.
Optimise, evolve, and deliver an efficient operating model.
Support shaping of the backlog and prioritising outcomes which are essential to keep the solution / product in good health.
Create an organisation that is truly data driven and providing the best value propositions to our customers.
Engineering practices for the adoption of pipelines for continuous delivery.
You'll handle the successful delivery and maintenance of the core technology agenda within the Lab providing strategic direction and oversight of Data and Systems.
You’ll be responsible for the technology roadmap, management of technical debt and other technical demands.
You'll be accountable for the technical solutions team that will design, build, or integrate, deploy, and run the system, particularly software, that supports the Data capability and operations with a focus on quality, resilience, low latency, reusability, accessibility by third parties and scalability.
Modernisation of applications into container/cloud architecture.

Able to nurture teams, support them through a culture of openness and trust, and to make teams the best they can be.
Have a strong passion for and technical understanding of applications and can provide support, knowledge and mentoring to the teams. This includes helping teams to use the best engineering practices, tooling, and methods and to encourage them to contribute towards inner-source activities and attend Meetups.
As an Engineer, you’ll…
Have extensive software engineering background with one or more programming languages.
Understand the business area to facilitate the best solution design with team members and product owners.
Are technology agnostic and are willing to adapt approach in pursuit of the optimal solution.
Experience working with, and integrating, Saas (Software as a Service) 3rd party solutions
Understand Systems Thinking and Service Design to mitigate reactive solutions that leads to further technical debt.
Understand measurement of change and work with teams to provide reassurance and mitigate behavioural change.
Significant experience with agile development methods & tooling e.g., Scrum, Kanban, Jira & Confluence, and experience of leading & working as part of an agile team as well as understanding the relationship between agile definitions and automated delivery.
Understand the benefits of BDD & TDD and ensure engineers write upfront tests against team defined stories.
Are industry aware and understand the importance of new technical approaches to evolve solutions and the experience of the team.
Have proven understanding of the entire software development lifecycle and experience in end- to- end delivery of software products along with knowledge of modern software development toolsets including DevOps, Continuous Integration, and Continuous Delivery.
