Team / Role Overview:
Citi leadership’s vision to integrate Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the firm in a safe and responsible way requires strong independent risk management leadership, and as the use of Digital Assets and Generative AI grows, for example, Citi needs to ensure its risk management program is appropriate to address the risk factors from both the external use of Generative AI (‘inbound’ risks) and internal Generative AI use cases.
The Emerging Innovation Risk Management function has been mandated to provide enterprise—wide risk management coverage of AI, is hiring a Risk Manager. The Risk Manager will report to the Head of Emerging Innovation Risk Management and will be based in London. The mandate of the Risk Manager will be global and cover all Citi business lines and Personal Banking & Wealth Management.
The Risk Manager will be tasked with providing independent risk management oversight of Citi’s AI and Digital Asset activities – especially Generative AI. The Risk Manager will help to coordinate a unified independent risk management view to cover all risk stripes, working closely with the departments and functions like; AI and DLT Centre’s of Excellence (Technology), Model Risk Management, Operational Risk Management and Independent Compliance Risk Management.
The Risk Manager will oversee foundational risk management documents for AI and Digital Asset activities, co-lead innovation discussions in the appropriate forums, and participate in the approval of new products and services involving AI firmwide.
What you’ll do:
Provide independent and proactive risk management – including challenge and oversight – of AI activities at Citi across various dimensions: internal use of AI, product and service initiatives leveraging AI, strategic investments in AI companies and onboarding of AI-centric prospective clients.
Lead and coordinate a unified independent risk management view across Independent Risk Management departments and Independent Compliance Risk Management to cover all risk stripes: Market Risk, Credit Risk, Operational Risk (Cyber, Data, etc), Treasury Risk, Compliance Risk, Strategic Risk and Reputation Risk.
Governance: assist in AI and Digital Asset deliberations in the appropriate risk management, participate in the approval of new products and service initiatives involving AI firmwide, in light of internal GenAI use cases, identify additional, scalable guardrails and refine risk appetite based on use case implications.
Foundational Frameworks: co-develop foundational risk management documents for AI activities.
Legal Entity Engagement: fuse global strategy and risk tolerance with legal entity considerations in partnership with Legal Entity Chief Risk Officers.
Stakeholder Engagement: engage with regulators, boards, executive management and other stakeholders to explain and discuss the risk, control and governance framework of the firm to accompany the firm’s AI strategy and commercial objectives and support the Emerging Innovation Risk Management with critical stakeholder engagements.
What we’ll need from you:
Minimum Bachelor’s degree with extensive relevant experience in financial services, risk management and/or AI required
Expertise and experience in AI, including solid years’ experience in generative AI
Strong Technology understanding from an Operational Risk background could be ideal
Experience of material legal entity risk
Knowledge in financial regulation and experience interacting with financial regulators
A proven track record of advocacy and ability to liaise across diverse stakeholder groups, essential
Knowledge of Citi’s businesses and products, or the equivalent at organizations of similar complexity and maturity is extremely beneficial.
