£50,320 - £56,610 yearly

Job Description

Location: Leeds

Insurance Supervision Directorate

The Bank of England is the UK's central bank. Our mission is to deliver monetary and financial stability for the British people. The Bank of England is a diverse organisation, each of its 4,000 plus people are committed to public service and dedicated to promoting the good of the people of the United Kingdom by maintaining monetary and financial stability.

The Insurance Supervision Directorate promotes the safety and soundness of over 500 insurers operating in the UK. This includes general insurers, life insurers, friendly societies and the London market. We help identify and mitigate potential risks before they can have an adverse effect on policyholders and financial stability.

Our supervisors come from a diverse range of backgrounds including the financial services industry, consulting and business advisory, accountancy, actuarial, compliance, non-financial industries, other parts of the PRA and the wider Bank.

Job description

We are recruiting Senior Supervisors to join the PRA's Insurance Supervision Directorate. Roles are available across Retail Life, London Markets and Major Life Groups Divisions, providing opportunities to work on either individual firm or cross-firm supervision. The role brings a significant level of responsibility and accountability and is critical to the success of our prudential supervision strategy.

Senior Supervisors are responsible for leading engagement with firms at a senior level, providing strong challenge to executive and Board members where needed, and representing the PRA and the Bank. Previous supervisory experience is not a pre-requisite, as responsibilities will be tailored to the competencies, aptitude and aspirations of successful candidates.

Day to day, you will use your analytical skills to deliver assessments and understand any risks firms might pose to our objectives. To do this, you will interact with firms and build an understanding of how they work. When things do not look quite right, you will investigate issues and dig deeper. You will share your findings with the wider internal team and work closely with senior leaders across UK and international financial firms. Everything you do will help ensure our supervisory strategy is implemented effectively. The mixture of high-profile work and complex issues means you will have opportunities to develop both technical and interpersonal skills.

We will match you to a role that builds on your strengths. You will need to be curious, ready to learn and keen to share ideas. You will enjoy analysing problems and be open to discussing and debating issues. With self-motivation and initiative, you will be able to set your own targets and work to deadlines. Importantly, you will have the ability to manage stakeholders and influence people and decisions.

Our Approach to Inclusion
The Bank values diversity, equity and inclusion. We play a key role in maintaining monetary and financial stability, and to do that effectively, we believe we need a workforce that reflects the society we serve.

At the Bank of England, we want all colleagues to feel valued and respected, so we're working hard to build an inclusive culture which supports people from all backgrounds and communities to be at their best at work. We celebrate all forms of diversity, including (but not limited to) age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religion, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status. We believe that it's by drawing on different perspectives and experiences that we'll continue to make the best decisions for the public.

We welcome applications from individuals who work flexibly, including job shares and part time working patterns. We've also partnered with external organisations to support us in making adjustments for candidates and employees in the recruitment process where they're needed.

From 1st October 2026, we expect all our colleagues to spend a minimum of 50% of their working time in the office per month. This is to capitalise on the benefits of working together in person across teams, while maintaining the flexibility offered by home working. Subject to that minimum requirement, individuals and managers should work together to find what works best for them and their team.

Finally, we're proud to be a member of the Disability Confident Scheme. If you wish to apply under this scheme, you should check the box in the 'Candidate Personal Information' under the 'Disability Confident Scheme' section of the application.
