Job Summary

Royal London is seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Test Analyst to help drive quality engineering across our digital platforms.

About the role

This is a highly technical, hands-on automation role focused on the development, maintenance and evolution of automated testing solutions using primarily Playwright. We are looking for someone who sees testing as an engineering discipline rather than simply test execution. You'll work closely with Software Engineers, Architects, Product Owners and Business Analysts to embed quality throughout the software delivery lifecycle and help shape the future of test automation within our digital teams.

You'll play a key role in designing scalable automation solutions, improving delivery pipelines, reducing manual effort and ensuring our customer journeys are delivered with confidence and quality. Working across strategic digital initiatives, you'll help define how automation is implemented, influence engineering best practice, and ensure quality remains a core consideration throughout delivery.
A significant part of the role will involve developing and enhancing automation frameworks using Playwright, creating reliable automated user interface, API and end-to-end test suites, and integrating automated testing into Azure DevOps pipelines. You'll collaborate with delivery teams from the earliest stages of refinement and design, helping identify risks, improve testability and ensure quality is built into solutions from the outset.

Alongside hands-on engineering, you'll act as a senior member of the testing community, coaching colleagues, promoting modern quality engineering practices and helping evolve Royal London's automation capability.

About you

You are an experienced automation engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges and creating sustainable automation solutions that deliver genuine business value.
You understand how to balance automation investment with delivery needs and can confidently influence teams on where automation will have the greatest impact. Equally comfortable discussing framework design with developers or quality strategy with stakeholders, you bring a complex customer journeys, pragmatic engineering mindset and a passion for continuous improvement.

You will have strong commercial experience designing and building automated testing solutions using Playwright. You'll have experience creating and maintaining enterprise-scale automation frameworks, automating and helping teams adopt automation-first delivery practices.

You should also have experience testing APIs and services using tools such as ReadyAPI and Postman, alongside a strong understanding of RESTful architectures, integration testing and automated validation approaches. Experience working with BDD frameworks and implementing automated acceptance testing within Agile teams will be highly beneficial.

We're particularly interested in candidates who have experience across the broader engineering toolchain, including Visual Studio Code, Git, Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices. Strong SQL skills are also important, including the ability to interrogate, validate and manipulate data to support test execution and investigation activities.
Experience with modern automation tooling is needed, as is experience within cloud-hosted and Azure-based environments.

Most importantly, you'll be passionate about quality, enjoys collaborating with others, and wants to help shape how test automation and quality engineering continue to evolve within Royal London.

What Success Looks Like
Success in this role will be measured by your ability to increase automation coverage across critical customer journeys, improve release confidence through robust Playwright automation, reduce manual regression effort, and help delivery teams adopt quality-first engineering practices.
You'll be recognised as someone who drives improvements in testing standards, tooling and automation maturity, whilst helping develop and mentor colleagues across the wider engineering community. Through your work, teams will be able to deliver software more quickly, more safely and with greater confidence.
Even if you don't meet every single requirement, we encourage you to apply. We are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, and your unique experiences and perspectives could be a great addition to our team.
