About this opportunity

We’re looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our Colleague Channels Platform team.
In this role, you’ll help build the automation, tools and engineering standards that enable teams to deliver software more quickly, safely and reliably.
Our team supports colleagues across Branch, Contact Centres and Operations. We create shared platforms and tools that make it easier for engineering teams across the Group to do their best work.
Within our Cloud team, we focus on automation, CI/CD, security and simple, reusable cloud patterns. We aim to make it easy for teams to build and run services on GCP and OpenShift in a secure, resilient and compliant way.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll combine technical expertise with collaboration and coaching to help raise engineering standards across multiple teams.
It’s a great opportunity to shape how software is delivered across the organisation while continuing to develop your own skills in a supportive environment.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design and improve CI/CD pipelines and release automation to support reliable delivery
  • Promote automation-first ways of working to reduce manual effort and increase consistency
  • Develop and share reusable Kubernetes and platform patterns
  • Help define secure, repeatable cloud provisioning approaches aligned to central standards
  • Work closely with feature teams, offering hands-on support, coaching and guidance
  • Contribute to improving engineering standards through collaboration, reviews and shared learning

What you’ll need

We know no candidate will meet every requirement. If your experience is close to what we’re looking for, we’d encourage you to apply.
  • Experience designing and running CI/CD pipelines across different environments
  • A passion for automation, with scripting skills (e.g. Python or Bash)
  • Experience working with Kubernetes and Helm, and an awareness of service mesh concepts (such as Istio)
  • Experience working with cloud platforms, using a pragmatic, engineering-led approach
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform)
  • Experience with observability or monitoring tools (e.g. Dynatrace, Prometheus, Splunk or similar)
  • A collaborative mindset, with a focus on quality, ownership and continuous improvement

It would be helpful if you also have experience in

  • Application development or testing environments (e.g. Java, Node.js, React, automated testing)
  • Code quality, security scanning or vulnerability management
  • Secrets or certificate management tools (e.g. HashiCorp Vault)
  • Cloud cost optimisation (FinOps)
  • Data, messaging or streaming technologies (e.g. PostgreSQL, Oracle, Kafka)
