About this opportunity
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the BCB Credit Underwriting team as a Credit Officer within the SME Credit team. Our team is focused on supporting sustainable growth while safeguarding credit quality, and is at the vanguard of our Helping Britain Prosper purpose.
Our team partners closely with Coverage (Relationship Management) and Product colleagues to serve clients in the SME sector. We deliver responsible credit risk solutions that enable customers – and our business – to grow securely. We advocate robust credit processes, actively contribute to credit policy strategy, structure and sanction transactions, and monitor portfolio performance.
The SME Credit team focuses on sanctioning transactions for clients with revenues between £3m and £50m per annum. This is a segment where we are investing significantly to support ambitious growth plans.
What You’ll Be Doing
· Apply your delegated credit authority to sanction SME transactions or provide recommendations to senior colleagues. This includes new-to-bank lending, increased facilities, refinances, restructures, annual credit reviews and tailored product solutions.
· The role will involve a focus on supporting the expansion of our Markets proposition for FX to existing and prospective SME Clients.
· Collaboration and stakeholder management is critical for our success. Key stakeholders include Area Directors, Relationship Managers and Product Partners. Client visits are a key part of the role.
· Maintain strong credit quality across our portfolio, enabling safe and sustainable business growth.
· Ensure compliance with bank and regulatory standards to minimise risk exposure.
· Contribute to policy, sector and ad-hoc reviews, offering constructive challenge and insight to optimise outcomes.
· Respond to executive and regulatory queries with clear, detailed analysis of credit risk within your portfolio.
We offer a supportive learning environment, prioritising teamwork and personal development. You’ll work in a high-profile, fast-paced setting that champions innovation and simplification, aligned with our core Group values.
What you’ll need:
· Strong credit risk experience.
· A strong background in credit risk and financial analysis and, ideally, experience in Markets and specifically FX lending decisions.
· Well-developed communication and influencing skills and are confident to challenge the status quo whilst being comfortable making and explaining your decisions.
· Ability to balance conflicting demands whilst delivering to tight timescales.
· Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new challenges.
· Demonstrate sound judgement, strong decision-making skills, good attention to detail and the ability to collaborate.
· Financial markets experience would be an advantage, but not essential.

Returner opportunities
Returning to work after time away can be challenging. That’s why we offer Returner opportunities that are designed to assist people returning to work after a career break of 18 months or more and our roles are permanent from the day one. Whether you’ve been away from work due to parenthood, illness, or even travel, we’re looking forward to hearing from you as we continue to grow!
What can you expect?
Coming back into the world of work after a career break can be really daunting – and we therefore know how important flexibility is. We’re very aware that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t always doable, so will happily have the discussion about different working patterns with you.
These roles have been created with your career break in mind, making sure we are there to support you in your transition back to work. You will be brought in on a permanent contract and given meaningful work from day one. Plus, you’ll be paired with a buddy or mentor from your team to help guide you along the way. You’ll also benefit from being part of the wider Returners Community and have the chance to create a personal development plan that works for you.
Who are we looking for?
While banking or professional services experience is desirable, especially for some roles, we care more about the transferable skills you can bring to our business.
Testimonials
I had a good network of colleagues already working for Lloyds Banking Group, who were all very passionate about their roles - so it felt the right choice for me and gave me the courage to apply for a Business Analyst role through the Returners. It was a seamless recruitment experience and I was offered a role in the work I wanted to do.
Olufunke Oladinni, Business Analyst
I love being a Project Manager, and I can’t recommend the Lloyds Banking Group Returners enough. It’ll springboard your career, giving you the best opportunity to relaunch yourself and maximise your full potential.
