Job Description

The Head of Mentoring provides strategic and team leadership, programme direction and operational oversight for WIBF’s mentoring portfolio and valued participants, ensuring it delivers a measurable impact for WIBF members across the industry.

The role shapes and delivers the long‑term vision for mentoring, strengthens WIBF’s position as the leading organisation for gender‑inclusive professional development, and ensures the programme remains innovative, scalable and is aligned with WIBF’s mission to accelerate gender equity in banking and finance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Mentoring Strategy: Lead a multi‑year mentoring strategy aligned to WIBF’s organisational goals and strategic pillars, EDI commitments, and membership needs.  Focus on the benefits of a core driver of measurable business outcomes 
  • WIBF Management Board: Sits on WIBF Management Board, contributes to and influences the strategic direction of WIBF demonstrating an understanding of the wider organisational agenda and applying this to mentoring activities. Identifies and leverages connections across strategic enablers, ensuring alignment and maximising impact. 
  • Programme Innovation: Continuous improvement (Provider performance and Industry offering analysis, AI capabilities, group mentoring, reverse mentoring, sponsorship pathways, digital mentoring) to expand reach and impact.
  • Thought Leadership: Represent WIBF internally and externally as a subject‑matter expert on mentoring, gender equity, and leadership development.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Build relationships with organisations, regulators, industry bodies, and academic partners to strengthen programme credibility and reach, partnering with the WIBF Corporate Partnership Team.

 

2. Team Leadership & Management

  • Team Leadership: Lead a team of volunteers and WIBF mentoring program collaborators in delivery of the Mentoring pillars (BAU, Curriculum & Support, Events, Community & Engagement, Future Leaders)
  • Budget Oversight: Oversee mentoring program budgets, forecasting, and resource allocation with WIBF Finance Team
  • Culture Building: Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and member‑centric service
  • Future Leaders: Mentor and support the Mentoring Future Leader Shadow member, collaborating on new strategies and capabilities to progress and support Student members through the WIBF Mentoring journey

3. Programme Governance & Delivery

  • Programme Oversight: Lead the integration of mentoring pathways pillar into the AI-powered Career Development Hub, creating a seamless, interconnected user journey that bridges sponsorship, skills tracking, and job matching. 
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure standards, frameworks, and policies to ensure consistency, safety, and excellence.
  • Risk Management: Oversee safeguarding, confidentiality, and ethical practice across all mentoring interactions.
  • Digital Platforms: Ensure mentoring technology platforms continue to support beneficial and value-driven matching, tracking, and reporting.

4. Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management

  • Corporate Engagement: Work with WIBF Corporate Partnership Team to design tailored mentoring pathways and secure programme sponsorship.  Continue to evolve the mentoring proposition alongside the Corporate Partnerships Team 
  • Volunteer Leadership: Recruit, train, and support volunteer mentors, programme leads, and ambassadors.
  • Member Experience: Ensure a high‑quality, inclusive experience for mentors and mentees across all touchpoints.

5. Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Integration

  • EDI Alignment: Ensure gender equity, intersectionality, and inclusive leadership principles into all mentoring content and processes.
  • Barriers to Progression: Use data and research to identify systemic barriers for women in finance and design mentoring interventions that address them.
  • Inclusive Access: Ensure programmes are accessible to women at all career stages, including under‑represented groups.

6. Impact Measurement, Data & Reporting

  • Impact Framework: Ensure KPIs and evaluation frameworks to measure outcomes such as career progression, confidence, retention, and leadership readiness.
  • Data Insights: Produce quarterly and annual reports for the Board, partners, and funders.
  • Continuous Improvement: Use data to refine programme design and demonstrate ROI to stakeholders.

Person Specification

Essential Experience

  • Mentoring Expertise — Proven leadership in mentoring, coaching, talent development, or organisational learning.
  • Financial Services Knowledge — Understanding of the UK banking and finance landscape, including gender equity challenges.
  • Strategic Leadership — Experience shaping and delivering multi‑year strategies.
  • Stakeholder Management — Ability to influence senior leaders and build cross‑sector partnerships.
  • EDI Expertise — Strong grounding in gender equity, intersectionality, and inclusive leadership.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with digital platforms.
  • Experience working with volunteers or membership organisations.
  • Experience in programme evaluation or impact measurement.
