Job Description

Citi Markets is a leading global markets and securities services business operating across fixed income, currencies, commodities, equities, and prime finance. Our operation is uniquely global. Our client list is remarkably varied. Our product range is incredibly broad. But we're not the finished article. We have big ambitions for the future and all the resources we need to reach them, including some of the smartest people in the industry. At Citi Markets, we win together. In a rapidly changing world, our shared vision gives us the clarity, agility and global perspectives we need to shape the future.

The Director on the EMEA Cash Electronic Execution Desk is a senior leadership role within the Equities Markets division, responsible for driving the growth, optimization, and risk management of Citi's electronic equities trading franchise across the UK, Europe, Middle East, and Africa. This role blends quantitative market structure expertise, client-facing relationship management, algorithmic trading proficiency, and rigorous regulatory oversight. You will lead client engagement on electronic execution, collaborate with Quantitative Research and Technology to enhance algorithmic strategies, and ensure our platform operates under the highest standards of risk control and regulatory compliance. This is an opportunity to shape the future of electronic execution in one of the world's most dynamic equities franchises.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Drive revenue growth and market share expansion across the EMEA electronic execution franchise by developing strategic relationships with institutional clients including asset managers, hedge funds, pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds

  • Lead the design, optimization, and deployment of algorithmic trading strategies across cash equities, working closely with Quantitative Research, Technology, and Market Structure teams to enhance execution quality and client outcomes

  • Manage comprehensive risk oversight of electronic trading activity, including real-time P&L monitoring, position management, market impact analysis, and regulatory capital optimization across multi-asset class electronic flows

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Research, Prime Finance, and Product teams to deliver integrated solutions that address complex client execution challenges and capture emerging market opportunities

  • Ensure strict adherence to regulatory requirements including MiFID II/MiFIR, FCA Conduct Rules, market abuse regulations, and internal risk frameworks, maintaining robust controls over algorithmic trading systems

  • Mentor and develop junior traders and sales professionals, fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration within the Electronic Execution team

What We Need from You

  • Extensive experience in electronic equities trading, algorithmic execution, or quantitative market-making within a tier-1 investment bank or institutional buy-side firm, with proven track record of revenue generation and client relationship management

  • Deep expertise in equity market microstructure, algorithmic trading strategies (VWAP, TWAP, implementation shortfall, arrival price, POV), smart order routing, dark pool liquidity, and regulatory frameworks governing electronic execution in European markets

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL, and experience working with execution management systems (EMS), order management systems (OMS), and market data platforms

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain senior-level client relationships across institutional investor segments, with exceptional communication skills to articulate complex trading strategies and market insights to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Comprehensive understanding of FCA/PRA regulatory requirements, MiFID II/MiFIR transparency obligations, best execution principles, and trade reporting standards applicable to electronic equities trading

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related quantitative discipline; advanced degree (MSc, PhD, MBA, CFA) strongly preferred
