Role Overview

Join the Bank's Health & Safety Function in a key role supporting the effective delivery of health and safety across a complex, high-profile organisation. As Health & Safety Operations Support Lead, you will help ensure our systems, data, controls and operational processes enable safe, compliant and consistent ways of working across the Bank.

This is an excellent opportunity for a health and safety professional who enjoys combining operational delivery, systems oversight, compliance coordination and stakeholder engagement. You will play a central role in supporting statutory compliance, improving data quality, strengthening assurance activity and helping the Function move towards more proactive, evidence-led risk management.

Working closely with the Head of Health & Safety, you will act as an important link between the central Health & Safety Function and stakeholders across the organisation, including first-line business units, property and facilities teams, second-line Risk colleagues and third-party suppliers.

You will help ensure health and safety processes are implemented smoothly, compliance obligations are met, and the Bank's safety management system operates effectively in practice.

The role works alongside the Health & Safety Governance & Management Lead, with a shared focus on strong controls, clear assurance and continuous improvement.

Together, these roles support an integrated approach to health and safety management, combining operational enablement with governance and assurance to reduce risk and promote proactive safety management across the organisation.

What you'll be doing

  • Operational support and coordination: act as a key coordinator between the Health & Safety Function and first-line teams, helping clarify responsibilities, embed health and safety requirements into day-to-day operations, and support effective controls and initiatives.
  • Systems administration and data quality: manage and maintain health and safety information systems, including incident reporting, risk assessment and compliance tracking tools, ensuring accurate records and reliable data for performance monitoring and reporting.
  • Compliance coordination and assurance support: coordinate and track health and safety compliance and control activities, supporting statutory and regulatory obligations across areas such as asbestos, fire safety, electrical and gas safety, lifts, pressure systems and workplace hazard controls.
  • Performance monitoring and risk visibility: gather and analyse health and safety metrics, compliance data and audit findings, producing clear reporting on key indicators such as risk assessment completion, statutory compliance, incident trends and training compliance.
  • Continuous improvement and insight: use data, compliance intelligence and stakeholder feedback to identify trends, emerging risks and opportunities to improve health and safety processes, controls and ways of working.
  • Stakeholder engagement and collaboration: build effective relationships with operational teams, property services and external suppliers, supporting clear communication of health and safety requirements and helping foster a consistent, collaborative safety culture across the Bank.

About the team

You will be part of the Health & Safety Function's operational delivery resource and report to the Head of Health & Safety. Working closely with other specialists, you will help ensure the Function runs smoothly and delivers high-quality support, assurance and continuous improvement across the organisation.

Role Requirements

What we're looking for

Minimum criteria

  • Health and safety experience: proven experience in health and safety operations or compliance within a complex or highly regulated environment, with broad understanding of statutory compliance, workplace health and safety practices and risk management principles.
  • Systems and data capability: experience using health and safety management systems, preferably aligned to ISO 45001, with strong data management skills and the ability to maintain accurate, reliable records.
  • Assurance and compliance knowledge: sound knowledge of health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements, with experience tracking compliance actions, supporting assurance activity and producing structured performance reports.

Essential criteria

  • Communication and stakeholder engagement: excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with operational teams, managers and external providers, and to communicate health and safety guidance clearly and confidently.
  • Organisation and analysis: strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities, alongside the analytical capability to interpret safety data, identify trends and present clear, actionable insights.

Desirable experience and qualifications

  • Professional accreditation: a relevant health and safety qualification or certification, with a Level 6 Diploma or equivalent as a minimum.
  • Sector knowledge: familiarity with banking, financial services or public sector environments, particularly where health and safety is managed across multiple locations and complex compliance requirements.
  • Management systems and improvement: experience maintaining or improving health and safety management systems, particularly in line with ISO 45001 and the Plan-Do-Check-Act model, including involvement in audits, risk management or continuous improvement activity.
  • Digital and data interest: an interest in using technology, analytics or digital tools to improve health and safety insight, compliance tracking and operational efficiency.

Location and Working Arrangements

This role can be based at the organisation's headquarters in London (Threadneedle Street) or the Leeds office. Regular travel between sites may be required to oversee commercial and performance activities across the UK portfolio. Flexible and hybrid working arrangements are supported, with a minimum expected on-site presence of 50% (approximately 3 days per week). All necessary IT equipment will be provided, and scheduling flexibility is offered to accommodate business and personal needs.

Salary and Benefits Information

This role offers a salary range in circa. Leeds: £62,480 - £70,290 and London: £69,440 - £78,120 based on skills and experience.

In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below:

  • Currently a non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/80th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/65th) or decrease (to 1/105th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year.
