Job Description

JOB TITLE: Infrastructure Specialist

SALARY: £48,987 - £54,430

LOCATION(S): Leeds and Manchester

HOURS:  Full time

WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) at one of the above office locations. Please note that participation in an on-call rota is also a requirement of this role.

What you'll be doing

Lloyds Banking Group is modernising through cloud technology, creating platforms that are secure, resilient and simpler for engineering teams to adopt and manage.

We’re looking for a DevOps-focused Infrastructure Specialist to join our Private Cloud Platform team, partnering with Middleware domain experts across technologies such as IBM DataPower, IBM MQ, and WebSphere/Liberty.

You’ll help design, build and improve the automated delivery capabilities used to deploy and manage middleware services. Working with experienced Middleware engineers, you’ll turn technical requirements and operational practices into reliable pipelines, reusable automation and self-service workflows for business-aligned teams. This includes supporting lifecycle activities such as provisioning, configuration, upgrades, patching and routine operational change.

This is a hands-on, engineering role suited to someone with core DevOps experience who wants to broaden their skills across Middleware and hybrid Private Cloud platforms while delivering tangible automation results.

Day to day you’ll

  • Work with middleware SMEs to turn technical requirements and operational practices into automated, reusable deployment and operational patterns.
  • Build and improve CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, scripts and self-service tooling that make middleware delivery consistent, repeatable and easier for teams to consume.
  • Automate middleware lifecycle activities, including provisioning, configuration, testing, upgrades, patching and operational validation.
  • Collaborate with platform, product, application, security and supplier teams to deliver solutions, solve issues and continuously improve services.
  • Build secure, resilient and observable solutions using good testing, version control and documentation practices, while learning from experienced engineers across the team.

 Why join us?

We’re on an exciting journey to transform our Group and the way we’re shaping finance for good. We’re focusing on the future, investing in our technologies, workplaces, and colleagues to make our Group a great place for everyone.

What we're looking for

Practical experience in a DevOps, infrastructure or platform engineering role, with a good grounding in automation and an interest in applying those skills to enterprise Middleware services.

Essential

  • Hands-on experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines and repeatable automated deployments, using tools such as Harness, Jenkins, UCD, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
  • Good working knowledge of Git and version-controlled delivery, including branching, pull requests, peer review and configuration-as-code practices.
  • Scripting and automation experience using technologies such as Python, Bash, Salt, Ansible or PowerShell.
  • The ability to work with technical SMEs to turn requirements and operational processes into maintainable automation.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills, with an understanding of security, resilience, change and support in an enterprise environment and a willingness to learn middleware technologies.
  • Writing clear technical documentation, sharing knowledge and taking ownership of outcomes while seeking support when needed.

Any experience of these would be really useful:

  • Containers and container platforms, including Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes.
  • GitOps and infrastructure or configuration-as-code using tools such as Argo CD, Flux, Terraform, Ansible, Salt or Helm.
  • Enterprise middleware technologies such as IBM MQ, WebSphere or IBM DataPower.
  • Monitoring and observability using tools such as Dynatrace, Prometheus or Grafana.
  • Testing, solving and supporting secure automated deployments across development and production-like environments.
